Associate Spotlight – Ralph Collins

Congratulations to Ralph Collins on his recent promotion to Project Manager.  Ralph joined Miller-Valentine Construction in 1989, working with our field crew as both a construction worker and supervisor.  While in the field, Ralph was involved in many notable projects, including Park Place at Lytle, River Valley Credit Union, Mercy Health Oakwood and St. Theresa, Alpha Sigma Chi, Officeware and Heidelberg Distributing.  Ralph was promoted to Assistant Project Manager in 2014.

Ralph is now coordinating both bidding and execution of fit-up projects, working with veteran Associate Chris Crook and new Associate Zack Houck in the Dayton office.  According to Zack, “Ralph has been a great mentor – he has been able to connect his decades of experience in management and pre-construction tasks to my field experience. This has helped me understand the whole process and transition into my new role quickly, becoming an effective and efficient team member. He has also taught me that you can never have too many good stories.”

Ralph’s current client list includes One Lincoln Park, Healthcare Trust of America, the University of Dayton, Washington Village Drive, Sisters of the Precious Blood/Salem Heights, and the GSA US Bankruptcy Court.  He is also managing the new elevator installation at our Dayton office, quite a challenge in building built in 1926.

Q&A with Ralph Collins:

What do you like most about the construction industry?
I have always enjoyed building or creating things and working with my hands.

What do you like best about working for Miller-Valentine Group?
Miller-Valentine is an upstanding company with a reputation for integrity and quality work.  I enjoy the challenge of ensuring that every project reflects these goals and providing our clients with the best this industry has to offer.

What was one of your favorite projects?
Park Place at Lytle has been one of my favorite projects.  Conversion of this one‐time manufacturing/office building into upscale residential condominiums required months of planning and included the efforts of over 505,000 worker hours. I am quite proud to have been part of this amazing transformation.

What challenges do you look forward to in your new position?
Building my leadership skills and leading a team to provide excellent service for our clients.

What is your favorite quote?
“Whether you think you can or you can’t you are usually right.” Henry Ford

What is your favorite way to relax?
Working in the garden, spending time with family, and riding my favorite roller coaster at Kings Island, the Diamondback (current record for one day is riding 19 times!).

According to Brian Lacon, Director of Preconstruction “Ralph is always eager to jump in to solve a new challenge; taking on any client need and treating their project with the diligence and care needed to complete the job to complete satisfaction.”
