Welcome Construction Recruiter – Josh Welsh
There is no better time to be a job seeker in the construction industry, and Miller-Valentine Group’s new Construction Recruiter, Josh Welsh, is connecting top candidates with a promising future at the company.
Josh joined the Miller-Valentine Group in November, bringing with him a background in sales and recruiting and a passion for construction. In fact, he intended to go into construction after graduating from the University of Dayton, but his career took him in a different direction. Now, he has the best of both worlds.
“This opportunity was the perfect spot for me,” Josh said. “I can further my path in recruiting at a company I have followed for many years. Almost every building on the University of Dayton campus was touched in some way by Miller-Valentine, so I was familiar with their work long before this opportunity came up.”
As a Construction Recruiter, Josh is responsible for bringing in top talent to the construction team, from Senior Project Managers to Superintendents and Field Supervisors. He is focusing on filling current openings as well as conducting outreach to potential candidates.
Josh is optimistic about the prospects and about the company’s unique selling points for new recruits.
A nationwide shortage of talent means candidates could have their pick of jobs – but with the Miller-Valentine Group, they can build a career. New hires join close-knit construction management teams led by Senior Project Managers, providing them with guidance on expectations, policies, and practices from the start. Miller-Valentine Group Associates also have the rare opportunity to be part of a project from concept through completion. In the process, they work with a range of professionals as they tackle complex, multidisciplinary challenges.
“The amount of growth we’ve been experiencing is very strong,” said Chris Knueven, President, Commercial Construction. “That creates a lot of opportunities to build on their experience and gain greater levels of responsibility with our company.”
That selling point is one of the company’s greatest strengths, Josh noted.
“We look for individuals who want to learn and grow in this industry,” he said. “Associates don’t join our company to do just one thing their entire career. They grow their knowledge, they grow their skills, they get to experience new opportunities and be part of a team.”
On top of that, Associates can claim the satisfaction of a profession that becomes a lasting feature of the landscape.
“This is an exciting industry where you get to see the product of the work you are doing,” said Chris. “You see a project progress from a concept to a completed building, and it’s a source of pride you can point to throughout your career.”
A recent report published by Fox News states that six-figure construction jobs are going unfilled. The construction sector is ready to boom in 2018, but there’s just one problem: It can’t find enough qualified workers. Read the full story
